Hats and Whiskey
It is a well know knitter-fact that if you handknit a gift for someone (a baby in particular), that gift will be the "best gift" of the day. That or a bottle of whiskey. David and I scored on both counts this past weekend. While I enjoyed a baby shower for the mom-to-be, he headed to a beer-n-brat event for the dad-to-be.
My gift: Aviatrix hats for the twin girls
His gift: whiskey
We received a lovely note from the soon-to-be parents "...you two won the "best gift"award - twice. The knit hats are ridiculously adorable and the perfect style for our twins - right down to the Hello Kitty aviators on the buttons. And of course a beautiful bottle of whiskey is what every man really wants to get no matter what the occasion. Thank you, thank you."
It made me smile...and wish I could write such a lovely note.
Without further ado, here are the Aviatrix Hats.
I used Malabrigo worsted in a garnet color. This was the yarn I won from Orinda5 whenI donated to the Roseville String Ensemble. This yarn has yielded a sweater for me and three baby hats now.
I of course warned the mother not to put the hats in the washer and dryer.
The buttons are just perfect. I don't keep many buttons on hand, but I happened to have some with Hello Kitty in an airplane. What could be more perfect! They look just great with the garnet yarn. I am so pleased with how these turned out.
As for the pattern, a definite winner! These hats knit up SO fast. You can easily finish one in an afternoon. They are knit flat with short rows, no seams...just wonderful. I think this will be my new go-to baby hat. I hope I will get to see the twins in them this coming winter.
