It's Not Knitting...

But it is crafty.

I saw this idea on the Martha Stewart weddings for some tissue paper pom-poms. We'll have a tent at the wedding, and I was thinking of having paper lanterns for decoration. Then I came across this which would be much cheaper.

Not being Martha Stewart, I wasn't sure I' d be able to achieve this look, so I bought some floral wire and tissue paper yesterday. This morning, while still in my pj's, I decided to give it a try. This is the quick and dirty, less than 5 minute pom-pom I made.

Not bad, eh? A pack of tissue paper is 99 cents. The floral wire was $1.99 for what looks to be a lot of wire. Imagine if I get some crafty people to help me and we focus on folding and cutting the ends nicely, I think they'll look very pretty.

I'd like to have dahlias for flowers, and these pom-poms remind me of them.

In the end, I couldn't resist the pull of thousands of suited Republicans in St. Paul and D and I headed downtown last night to check things out. Actually, that's a lie. What compelled me down there was my support of St. Paul business. The Pioneer Press reported yesterday on how dismal business was for some of the restaurants and shops around the convention. I Need a New Word for "Perfect"

I just spent what can only be described as quite possibly one of the most perfect weekends of my life, thus far. I'm racking my brain trying to think of a weekend that has felt more "right" and I just can't. I think this was one of those rare life moments where everything comes together to create contentment. A perfect blend of good food, friendly strangers, physical and mental activity, and a person to travel with that makes you happy. David and I spent the weekend in Lanesboro, MN and thereabouts. We loaded up our bikes, and in my case, way too much other stuff and headed out of town. How is it that I can pack so light for a 10 day trip to Ireland, but when I head 2 hours south, I pack as though I am leaving home for an indefinite period of time?
