Oscar's Hat

A friend recently welcomed a new baby boy to the world, and this is my contribution to his wardrobe.

It's the Candy Cane hat from Itty Bitty Hats, knit in some Lion Brand Cotton Ease with a contrasting red pom. The pom is Crystal Palace Yarns Merino 5 Solid. It is super cute! I'm also very please with my stripes and the switch between colors. It turned out very nicely.

It took me forever to finish this hat. About the time I was almost done, this crazy thing called "engagement" happened to me, rendering me unable to focus on anything at all for more than 5 minutes. My mind has been skipping and hopping to a million different places ever since then.

But, finally it is finished, and just as cute as can be. I'll try to pop it in the mail tomorrow or maybe next week. I'm a little nervous because Oscar's mom also knits and if the pom falls off I'll be so embarrassed. So, say a little prayer it stays on. Thanks.

In the end, I couldn't resist the pull of thousands of suited Republicans in St. Paul and D and I headed downtown last night to check things out. Actually, that's a lie. What compelled me down there was my support of St. Paul business. The Pioneer Press reported yesterday on how dismal business was for some of the restaurants and shops around the convention. I Need a New Word for "Perfect"

I just spent what can only be described as quite possibly one of the most perfect weekends of my life, thus far. I'm racking my brain trying to think of a weekend that has felt more "right" and I just can't. I think this was one of those rare life moments where everything comes together to create contentment. A perfect blend of good food, friendly strangers, physical and mental activity, and a person to travel with that makes you happy. David and I spent the weekend in Lanesboro, MN and thereabouts. We loaded up our bikes, and in my case, way too much other stuff and headed out of town. How is it that I can pack so light for a 10 day trip to Ireland, but when I head 2 hours south, I pack as though I am leaving home for an indefinite period of time?
