Biology Day, AKA Sunday

Sunday we woke up bright and early (no sleeping in this day) to leave by 9 a.m. for the Denver Zoo. The boys were very excited about this, and why not? As I was soon to discover, the Denver Zoo is a very nice zoo.

The day was gorgeous…sunny and in the 70s. This time I remembered my sunscreen.

We saw mongoose…
Monkeys….
Elephants…
Lorikeets (hmmm....looks like there may be a little somethin-somethin going on there)

and Dall Sheep! No, they are not mountain goats. They are sheep.

Wonder what their wool is like?

Then my camera battery died. So, no pictures of the hippos and rhinos.

I could have spent more time there. It’s a good sized zoo, and we didn’t even get over to the side with the lions, tigers, and bears. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to go back some day. Then again, I have an irrational fear of being mauled by a lion or tiger, so maybe it is best to stay away.

We were there most of the morning, and then it was time to take me back to the airport. Sigh. As you’ll discover in my post tomorrow, my airport waiting time and flight time were significantly marred by a lack of knitting. Yes, I did bring knitting with me. No, I could not work on it on the way home. Why?

In the end, I couldn't resist the pull of thousands of suited Republicans in St. Paul and D and I headed downtown last night to check things out. Actually, that's a lie. What compelled me down there was my support of St. Paul business. The Pioneer Press reported yesterday on how dismal business was for some of the restaurants and shops around the convention. I figured, "Well, if the Republicans won't eat there, I WILL!" After work we headed to Cosetta's . As you can see...definite lack of Republicans. They were all outside on the street. I Need a New Word for "Perfect"

I just spent what can only be described as quite possibly one of the most perfect weekends of my life, thus far. I'm racking my brain trying to think of a weekend that has felt more "right" and I just can't. I think this was one of those rare life moments where everything comes together to create contentment. A perfect blend of good food, friendly strangers, physical and mental activity, and a person to travel with that makes you happy. David and I spent the weekend in Lanesboro, MN and thereabouts. We loaded up our bikes, and in my case, way too much other stuff and headed out of town. How is it that I can pack so light for a 10 day trip to Ireland, but when I head 2 hours south, I pack as though I am leaving home for an indefinite period of time?
