Saving the World...One Sock at a Time!

Well, here they are! My "Sock Savior" socks. This summer, I participated in Sockapalooza 4. Over 1,000 knitters in 26 different countries participated, knitting socks for strangers and receiving some knitted goodness in return. I received some beautiful socks from Tanya, and Linda was the recipient of my first pair of Sockapalooza socks.

Unfortunately, not everyone held up their end of the bargain, and some knitters found themselves waiting...and waiting...and waiting...for socks that never showed. These knitters needed "sock saviors" and I answered the call!

Details: Baby Cable Rib from Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch, done toe-up with the round toe.
Yarn: Fleece Artist Merino 2/6

I LOVE the yarn! The socks worry me a bit. As I did with my first pair of Sockapalooza socks, they are a bit too long. Not only that, but one is longer than the other. Where did I go wrong? Do I need a new tape measure?

Well, I had a lot of trouble getting started with the toe. Then, I had a lot of trouble with the heel. I've never done a heel flap "backwards" before (since these were toe-up I was moving in the opposite direction when I got to the heel). Plus, I had more stitches cast on then what the pattern in the book called for...so I had to make some adjustments. So, it was all a bit challenging for me. Lesson learned: Don't try new things with socks you are knitting for a stranger.

BUT! I still think they are lovely, and I hope my sockpal will like them! These should go in the mail this weekend, Monday at the latest. Here is another picture of the socks...a little close up of the stitch pattern. It's not a great picture, but you'll get the general idea.

oh...they are such sweet little socks. They have a lot of character with their long body and skinny neck. I love them!

Gretchen, you are funny! My sock pal has feet that are about an inch smaller in circumfrance than mine, and about and inch longer.
