On the Road Again – Saturday in Ireland

Our time in Ireland is quickly coming to an end. We all woke up bleary-eyed after the raucous evening at the pub. It was time to leave Gerrykennedy Cottage.

We had some time to kill, so we headed in to Nenagh to visit the internet cafe one more time and to have lunch.

This is the church in Nenagh. It was cloudy that morning, but then it cleared up.

Then it was off to Dooneen Lodge near Limerick for the last two nights.

Noreen greeted us when we arrived and she could not have been nicer. She brought each of us an Irish Coffee (yay!) and then most of us headed off for a much needed nap. I stayed up and got some more knitting done on the rpm socks (I am working on the gusset now).

After a rest, we drove to Limerick for dinner. We ate at Bella Italia, an Italian restaurant and it was very good. David and I shared a delicious capese salad and some pasta that had “streaky bacon”. I'm not sure what that means, but it was good.

Today was a big day for Ireland. Ireland played Wales in the championship match of the. Six Nations tournament. This is an annual Rugby tournament among Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, France, and Italy. Ireland has not won for 61 years, so the whole country was excited. Kind of like when the Red Sox won the World Series for the first time in 80 years or whatever it was.

We could hear the waitstaff and kitchen staff cheering in back when ever Ireland scored.

And, Ireland won! There was lots of cheering in Limerick, and I imagine all over Ireland.

Go Ireland!

Well, after thinking about starting a blog for several years now, I've finally done it. Bear with me as I get the hang of it. This will mostly be a knitting blog...which I guess means I'll need to knit a lot. No problem there. Why the name, "Knitting in Transit"? Because "Knitting on the Bus" was taken. I'm sure this is only being read by family and friends, and you all know I don't own a car and get around to and fro on the bus. Where I do a lot of knitting. Report from the RNC

In the end, I couldn't resist the pull of thousands of suited Republicans in St. Paul and D and I headed downtown last night to check things out. Actually, that's a lie. What compelled me down there was my support of St. Paul business. The Pioneer Press reported yesterday on how dismal business was for some of the restaurants and shops around the convention. I figured, "Well, if the Republicans won't eat there, I WILL!" After work we headed to Cosetta's . As you can see...definite lack of Republicans. They were all outside on the street. I have to say, in my Ravelry t-shirt and Chacos, I felt a little out of place. This is as close as we could get to the Excel Energy Center. It looks like the city is on lockdown. While we were just standing around, Sean Hannity passed right by us. I've never watched a day of Fox News in my life, so I would not have known this if someone nearby had not pointed him out. Anti-Valentine's Day

I'm not wild about Valentine's Day. Why designate one day of the year to show people you love them? Why not just do that everyday? D and I have never really done anything special for Valentine's Day. I can't even remember if we saw each other last year on Valentine's Day! This year, I want to do have an Anti-Valentine's Day. I want to spend the day with D, but do things that are the opposite of what you might do on Valentine's Day. So far, the only thing I have come up with is watching a horror movie. Since neither of us like horror movies, we probably won't do that, but I am looking for things in that spirit. Please help me. Leave any ideas you might have in comments. If you leave an idea and we do that, you'll get a special treat. Probably chocolate. Or Gummy Bears if you prefer that sort of thing.
