Sometimes I Don't Like Public Transportation

Don't get me wrong...I am so lucky to be able to get so many places by bus and train, so easily. But easily doesn't always mean quickly. I gave a financial aid presentation at a local high school last night. We finished up a little after 8:30, but by the time I got home, it was almost 10:00. I just missed a train, which meant I missed my connecting bus by 5 minutes and had to wait 25 minutes for another one. Had I been driving, I'd have been home in 20 minutes.

Sigh. The things we do to decrease our carbon footprint.

I thought I'd share with you some photos of the fog in Wisconsin Sunday. Gretchen and I left Madison at about noon and headed home. The fog was thick and dense. Fortunately, we made it home okay. At about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, there was a 100 car pile-up on I90 near Madison.



Knitting is going well. I finished up the back of the Ribby Cardi and have begun the sleeves. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have enough of my contrasting color for the sleeves. I brought the label with me and hope to be able to track some down. I saw some promising leads on Ravelry yesterday! Wish me luck!


One thing that made me sad about getting home so late was that I just wanted to go to bed. Poor Zoey. She was so chatty and seemed to want some lap time, but I just couldn't do it. At least I cleaned out her litter box. Yup...I'm becoming one of those crazy cat ladies.

Here are some photos. Zoey the Cat is very tactile. She loves different textures. When I used to visit Matt and Gretchen, she would always sit on my suitcase. She also loves to sit on jeans.

And of course, a warm basket of laundry is irresistible.

In the end, I couldn't resist the pull of thousands of suited Republicans in St. Paul and D and I headed downtown last night to check things out. Actually, that's a lie. What compelled me down there was my support of St. Paul business. The Pioneer Press reported yesterday on how dismal business was for some of the restaurants and shops around the convention. I figured, "Well, if the Republicans won't eat there, I WILL!" After work we headed to Cosetta's . As you can see...definite lack of Republicans. They were all outside on the street. I have to say, in my Ravelry t-shirt and Chacos, I felt a little out of place. This is as close as we could get to the Excel Energy Center. It looks like the city is on lockdown. While we were just standing around, Sean Hannity passed right by us. I've never watched a day of Fox News in my life, so I would not have known this if someone nearby had not pointed him out. I have entered the blogosphere!

Well, after thinking about starting a blog for several years now, I've finally done it. Bear with me as I get the hang of it. This will mostly be a knitting blog...which I guess means I'll need to knit a lot. No problem there. Why the name, "Knitting in Transit"? Because "Knitting on the Bus" was taken. I'm sure this is only being read by family and friends, and you all know I don't own a car and get around to and fro on the bus. Where I do a lot of knitting. Expect that I may also regale you with my tales of riding the bus. Well, I can't very well have a knitting blog without a picture of something I knit, so here you go. My latest FO...Dad's Sweater. Anti-Valentine's Day

I'm not wild about Valentine's Day. Why designate one day of the year to show people you love them? Why not just do that everyday? D and I have never really done anything special for Valentine's Day. I can't even remember if we saw each other last year on Valentine's Day! This year, I want to do have an Anti-Valentine's Day. I want to spend the day with D, but do things that are the opposite of what you might do on Valentine's Day. So far, the only thing I have come up with is watching a horror movie. Since neither of us like horror movies, we probably won't do that, but I am looking for things in that spirit. Please help me. Leave any ideas you might have in comments. If you leave an idea and we do that, you'll get a special treat. Probably chocolate. Or Gummy Bears if you prefer that sort of thing.
